Bringing a new pet into your household can be stressful for some of the members, while being joyful for others. If you have small children, other cats or dogs in your family, bringing home a new kitten will require some planning and preparation. Get some tips from fellow cat lovers in the pet community of ebayclassifieds. Your first step should always be to make sure that all pets, new and existing, have had adequate veterinarian examinations and immunizations. Small children should never be left with a new pet while unsupervised.

Once you are ready to bring your new kitten home, prepare a room where the kitten will spend her first days. This may be your bedroom, den or a spare room, but should not be a room where other pets are accustomed to spending large amounts of time. This will allow your new pet to become familiar with your house while other animals are adapting to the smell of the newcomer. After several days, you may be ready to physically introduce your pets to one another.

You must diligently supervise these first encounters. If any of your pets display outright violence toward another, separate them immediately for a later try. It can take several weeks to acclimate existing pets to an addition, and some older pets may never be completely friendly to the new one. Most often, however, the pets will find at least a form of truce where they spend most of their time in separate rooms. If this is the direction your pets are headed, you can help them out by providing separate litter boxes, snuggling beds, window sills or other spaces that they prefer.

Most people are always on the look out for a great deal, but for pet owners it’s not acceptable to sacrifice quality for price. Rising costs make this difficult however, and some people have to out of necessity. Shopping for pet supplies online is the best way to bag a bargain however, and you’ll pay less for the absolute best products around.

Unlike traditional pet stores, prices online aren’t steep at all, so this means you can shop with a tight budget and still manage to pick up something of very high quality. Expect to pay anything from 5-20% less online, and that equates to a huge amount for bigger items, or if you’re buying in bulk regularly.

Looking online will also open your eyes to a phenomenal range of products that might have previously been out of reach. If you were only able to get one particular type before, for example chicken flavoured dog food, there’s scope to go ahead and find lamb, beef, duck and even pork flavours. What this means is that you’ll continually be able to surprise and delight your pet and keep it happy and healthy.

At Monster Pet Supplies there are over 20,000 different items to choose from that range from cat biscuits to rabbit hutches, aquariums to special reptile lights. Pretty much all animals are catered for, so even the most peculiar of needs can be solved. Some of the lowest prices around in addition to fast home delivery mean once you find the right product you can have it sent to your home in a matter of days.

So there’s no disputing the fact that shopping online for pet supplies is a great way to not only get your hands on the best products around, but also save a shed load of money. Cut out the stress and hassle of having to go to a pet store in person; visit Monster Pet Supplies instead!

There are numerous resources that provide detailed information about pet care depending on one’s choice of pet. One can opt for online or offline resources depending on one’s preferences. However, there are certain basic points that must be kept in mind irrespective of one’s choice of pets.

Pets should be treated like children. In fact, pets should be treated like children who will never grow up. Your dog may grow up to become a well trained animal but it still cannot take care of itself in a satisfactory manner. You must always be prepared to step in and lay down the law as and when required.

Keep the pet healthy and bulk of your pet related problems will automatically vanish. Health is very important. A pet who is not healthy will be a burden on the family. There will be emotional stress caused by the poor health. You will also have to face financial loss. On the other hand, a healthy pet will make life worth living.

Fitness and exercise is important for pets just as it is important for children. Make sure that your pet gets adequate exercise. Chances are high that you will be forced to exercise along with your pet. This is only going to offer additional benefits.

Take care of the diet and your pet and child will never fall ill. A good nutritious diet that does not involve junk food or other harmful substances is the best option around. Make sure that the food is consumed in a clean environment. You may even have to brush the teeth of your pet on regular basis to ensure that cleanliness and hygiene is maintained at all times.

Pet insurance information doesn’t have to be difficult to find, especially when it’s for your own pet.

Where Your Pet Records Should Be

Your pet is a valued member of your family, even more so than your spouse in some cases (no, we won’t tell). So, as this loved one, your pet’s medical records should be readily available to you and to your vet. But why are they treated differently than other medical information? Some pet records are treated as though they are for anyone to see and they are arranged in a way that doesn’t necessarily make them usable. Though vet medical education should teach otherwise, this is the way things have been for years and the way things may continue to be if things don’t change.

Why Your Pet Insurance Matters

The good news is that while your medical coverage might be horrible, pet medical insurance has actually increased the effectiveness of pet medical records. Since insurance companies don’t want to pay up for treatments, vets now have to keep medical records pristine to prove the medical treatments are necessary – just like you have to do with your health insurance. Guess a pet who’s treated the same is one that has to battle the same insurance problems – too bad they can’t speak up for themselves.

What Vet Medical Schools Teach

In vet medical school curriculum it becomes essential to teach future vets how to handle medical records. They need to know how to document charts, how to code for insurance payments, etc. While vets might have thought they were getting out of this boring part of medicine, seems that they have to be just as diligent as human doctors. Thankfully, pets can’t complain as much.

With the right pet insurance information and medical records, taking care of your pet can be simple and pain free. And you probably won’t have to make as many payments as you thought you did.

When preparing for your new kitten, it isn’t enough for your kitten to have a safe place to live or even good food to eat; special care should be given for his/her well being.

Milk, water and wet food are good places to start, but so are veterinary visits soon after you take your new pet home. Spaying or neutering is important to some folks, and the sooner this is done the better.

Keep up on all your vaccines. Have the vet routinely check your kitten’s ears for mites, fleas, and flea dirt. Check your kitten’s stool for worms or parasites, and remember to keep your veterinarian abreast of any perceived sicknesses through sources like Canada 411. It’s always better to be safe than sorry when it comes to the health of your pet.

Long haired cats especially need to be groomed to prevent fur balls lodging in their throat. This means brushing at home, and maybe even a visit to the vet for a little trim. Your kitten will become physically unfit without the use of a few toys scattered throughout the house. But be prepared for your kitten to like something you haven’t purchased that he/she has found and claimed for their favorite toy.

Keeping your kitten in tip-top physical health does not have to include jumping on kitchen tables or scrounging for food on the kitchen counter. Spend time with your kitten playing with a ball of yarn or their favorite sock and you will find that they will receive much of the exercise they need for physical health.

Purchasing a dog is just not enough; it should be trained which is not an easy job. The owner should be patient and very careful while training its new dog or any other pet and once the training is complete he/she can enjoy with the new member happily.

Let us take an example of training a dog for which and it is to noted that the owner should not only know how to train a dog but even what to train which is done by understanding a dog’s body language, barks and noises. Even small animals are like the new born babies and so they should be treated with much care, love and affection. While training a dog the main thing to be remembered is that the person should be very specific and keen on his gesture and not change them regularly i.e. he/she can use a specific sign for anything considered and the person should stick to that until the dog learns. Again understanding the dog’s language is also very important since the dog communicates through all its body – eyes, ears, tail, leg and everything. So it is very important for a person to understand their language. It is also very important to understand a dog’s noise and barks since they even communicate by them. After that a name has to be given and after the dog is repeatedly called by that name it understands that name and moreover other signs like “come here” or “go away” when used regularly the pet understands those words.

Any pet if trained properly can be like a family member.

Having a pet means something to an apartment dweller. In a lot of ways, you’re expanding your family when you bring an animal into your home, which can be a major step if you’ve never been responsible for any living things but yourself. Naturally, you need to do a little bit of extra searching when you look around for an apartment that’s fit for Fido and cool with Catrina.

When you hunt around for apartments for rent, pay careful attention to how high up they are. It you ever accidentally leave the window open, a lot of animals are inclined to jump out without really thinking about how far the fall is. While a cat can usually land all right up to about nine stories, cats don’t come with parachutes. As well, make sure the apartment you get has a screen for every window that opens. As well, make sure that any plants you keep in your home are either far out of your pet’s reach, or completely safe for him or her to munch on when the desire strikes them.

But it goes beyond safety. As safe as a pet may be, there are other factors that deserve consideration. For example, a pet friendly apartment is going to have a neighborhood where they have space to roam around in. And not just dogs and cats need this. Every animal needs a little outside time every now and again. It’s cruel to cage them up all the time. It’s a little hard to be pet friendly if you don’t ever allow your pets to get outside, even given the special considerations during the winter time.

The arrival of a new puppy in the household is greeted with cheer and happiness. While it is indeed a great moment for the house training and your puppy and taking care of it is indeed a big job which requires lot of focused hard work and tons of patience. There are some basic thing which must be done when a puppy lands in your house. The first thing is to take your pet to the best vet around in the town and have a thorough check up done. Pups are very weak when they are newly born and are prone to lot of infections. The most common infection is hookworm and other infections which should be immediately addressed and remedied. If neglected, they could play havoc with your puppy’s health and could even prove fatal to it.

A visit to the vet will solve lot of other problems like vaccination and diagnosing any birth defects like cleft palate or some problems with their vital organs. The next important thing is training the puppy once it is home. You should start with small things and the most primary thing that you should start with is developing a good potty habit. The first few days will be problematic but you should be patient and persevering. Never be negative with your pet puppy. Scolding or beating the puppy is bound to create a lot of negativity between you and the puppy. On the other hand if you are positive and appreciate the good work done by the puppy it will go a long way in training it that much better.

The food which you provide to the puppy should be nutritious.

Owners of pet dogs like their pets as much as pet owners of cat, horse, birds or even fishes do. But loving them and feeding is just one part of the story. While caring and being kind to your pet dog is very vital, equally important is to take care of its health. Pet dogs are very vulnerable to falling sick and developing serious problems unless they are taken care of properly.

Dogs are like human beings and are prone to falling sick or being in bad health. However, if we take proper care and do what is needed to be done in time, then we can avoid such situations. Like human beings they also have a heart, lungs and other vital organs, which can malfunction at any given point in time. So, proper periodical checkup under a qualified vet is very important for maintaining their health. They also should be clean under all circumstances. Bathing them regularly, cleaning their ears, brushing their teeth, cleaning their tongue is as important as taking care of their nails and hair. Dogs have thick coats of hair which should be trimmed and kept in proper condition by regular washing and drying.

They should be protected from insect and other infection like mites, lice, etc. Dogs like other animals and human beings should also be given periodical vaccinations and injections to keep them away from some life-threatening disease like rabies, etc. To keep good health of your pet dog, it is very essential to keep a close watch on their food habits. Give them nutritious food in the right quantities at the right interval. Avoid underfeeding or overfeeding. It is simple.

If you are under the belief that your pet dog can be trained easily, then more often that not, you are bound to be woken from you stupor and realize the fact it is not that easy at all. Training your pet dog is one hell of a job, especially during the first few days. Especially if you have a small puppy which has just landed in your house, you may have to spend some sleepless night tending, caring and most importantly training it. The first basic lesson that you need to know about training pet dogs is to treat them as your own family member. You should give it the same love and attention that you would have given if it was your child.

Pet dogs are very sensitive but highly intelligent creatures and training them takes time and patience. Being tough on them will not pay and will only make matters worse. You should take one step at a time and begin with the first lesson of making the dog learn to go out for its toilet and other jobs. This can be done with a bit of practice and patience. The next thing is to select a spot for it to have its food and rest during the nights. If not done it will use any place in the home as its bedroom.
The other important aspect of training your pet dog is to make it respond to your commands and instructions like “Come here”, “go there”, etc. Here too patience is the name of the game and you cannot hurry it through. Develop the habits of appreciating and motivating it when it learns new trick or instruction.

Having a pet in the house is easier said than done. We can just take a drive, go to a dog kennel and come home with the most desired puppy which is perhaps a few days old. In fact the real challenge just begins the moment the pet arrives home. Remember, we have brought home a puppy which has just been separated from her mother. It could be a traumatic experience for the puppy and added to it, if we as masters do not show the right kind of compassion and care would be actually driving the poor animal down the road to disaster. So taking care of pets is much more important. Hence, prior to buying a pet make it sure that you would be able to spare time and effort to take care of it. It is just like taking care of your own child.

The first thing when it comes to pet care is to ensure that the pet is properly nourished and fed. Remember your food habit and the pets may not be on the same wave length and you cannot expect it to be so. So arranging the right kind of food and nutrition is extremely important. Feeding should also be timely and should be too little or too much. Often we make the mistake of over-feeding the pet which could lead all sorts of problems. The next important point that needs to be kept in mind is to ensure that the pet remains clean and healthy. Regular bathing, trimming of nails, hairs and regular changing of water if you are having an aquarium are some of the basic things that need to be kept in mind.

Pet food market is increasing in huge leap in developing countries. In the last decade many new companies have launched their pet food products in developing countries. The reason being there is huge demands for pet foods as people do not have time for making food at home. Also pet owners want to provide wholesome nutrition to their pets. Feeding by itself can be quite challenging when it comes to cats and dogs. It makes the owners life easier to buy a ready made product to feed their pet.

There are different brands in the market in varying price range to suit your need. There are also special diets for aging pets in the market. This helps in taking care of your pets and to increase their life span. There are also special formulations available for pets having health disorders such as diabetes or kidney failure but these can be expensive. So it’s better to check with the veterinary doctor regarding the health condition of the pet before bringing them home. Though many pet foods are available in the market one has to follow proper feeding methods. If not there is a possibility of pets falling ill.

As they are frail there is a possibility of infection if you do not provide a safe and clean environment. Proper cleaning of the place where pets are kept and cleaning of utensils in which they eat are some of the important factor to keep them healthy. Grooming is also a must in case of dogs and cats. When the family is traveling out station its important to leave the pet with other friends or family. Pet care centers are also available where you can leave your pet while traveling. But this comes with a cost and all centers do not take good care of pets.

When we think of pets usually we think of dogs. But pets can also be a cat, bird or a fish. Pets are becoming popular as they provide company and bring lot of joy in the family. Spinsters and bachelors are also increasingly opting for pets as it helps fight boredom and gives them company. Families with children usually prefer to have dog or a cat as pet to play with their children. It also brings a sense of responsibility and maturity in the children as they take care of their pets. Eventually they become their friend and part of their family.

Proper know-how is needed to take care of the pets. Knowledge on feeding, grooming and awareness on common health disorders in pets is a necessity to take good care of your pets. Regular visitation to a veterinary doctor is a must to take proper care of your pet. They will also counsel as to the dos and don’ts of taking care of a pet. Care must be taken if babies are in the family. Also if anyone in the family is allergic to pets its better to avoid having one in the house. Commitment from all the members in the family is required to take care of pet. This makes it easier to share the work load as pet needs care and attention.

Litter training can be quite challenging but persistence usually pays off. Dogs and cats can be trained to litter in litter box and a walk outside is a must. It’s a good exercise for both you and your pet. Compared to dogs and cats, fishes do not require much attention. Though it has to be fed and the water tank has to be cleaned on a regular basis. Birds also require some care in terms of cleaning their cage and feeding.

Everyone talks about how a toddler brings out the need to childproof your house. No one ever mentions the pet proofing that is required when you bring home a new cat or dog. Cats and dogs are extremely curious creatures. When you bring them into a new setting they are likely to want to look, sniff, jump, explore and roam into every area. While this is just natural curiosity it can often result in broken glasses or vases, torn up rugs and couches, and even scratched pool or poker tables.

If you are bringing a new cat or dog home there are a few things you should do to make sure that your house is protected from your pet so that you don’t end up ruining your favorite rug or poker table.

Purchase Plastic Coverings. Over time your animal’s curiosity will dwindle and you can uncover items like poker tables, but it is a good idea to cover up all items you do not want scratched with plastic. There are plastic coverings that can cover the couches and plastic covers for poker and pool tables. These coverings will prevent anything from being inadvertently damaged by your curious new pet.

Remove Rugs. Dogs and cats love to nip and scratch at rugs. Unless you want your favorite rug scratched or torn you will want to remove it to a safe location. This will prevent your pet from getting their claws into it.

Move Breakable Items. Items that can easily break will need to be moved out of the reach of your cat or dog, or placed away in storage. This will prevent them from accidently getting broken while your pet is exploring new places.

It is important to remember that no matter how much you pet proof your house your pet will still get into things that you never dreamed of. However, by following these steps you can minimize the damage your pet does.

There are many cats who act in a weird way at times. Especially it’s difficult to manage their behaviors if you have more than one pet like a dog or a cat. At times cats tend to eat dog food instead of their own food. You would not pay it much attention but this negligence can pose a serious health issues for your cat. Cat’s usually eat meat because contains protein and vitamins that is good for their health. Eating dog food will not provide your cat with enough protein and Vitamin B which is very essential for his or her body.

Once in a while if your cat attacks your dog’s food then there is nothing to worry about but if she insists on having only dog food then it is a serious problem and you need to change this habit to avoid your pet from falling ill. If cat’s body does not get enough protein and vitamin it can cause serious health problems. Whereas on other hand if a dog eats cat food it makes no difference instead they will put on weight but causes no serious health issues.

But it is advisable not to let your dog eat cat food as it will make them overweight which is not good for their health in long term. Getting overweight is not good for a dog as well as a cat so you have to make sure they eat what is appropriate for them. To stop them getting them into each other’s food try to feed them on different times or at different locations so that they do not get into each other’s food. If they continue to do the same then consult your veterinarian and discuss the problem. If possible take them for a visit to your pet so that they can get a health check up.

When it comes to addiction, humans are not the only ones who suffer. In fact, there are silent sufferers who often get the worse end of the deal when addiction is involved. Those silent sufferers are pets. Pet are often affected negatively when they are cared for my someone addicted to drugs or alcohol. Pets have no control over how or when they are fed, cared for, or loved. It’s sad state for the animals in the home of an addicted friend or family member. Below are some of the ways animals suffer at the hands of an addict.

- Malnutrition. An addict can’t feed an animal when he is preoccupied with his next “buzz.”

- Unclean/unsafe environments. Often the first thing to go with an addict is care for his physical surroundings. Unclean and unsafe environments are deadly for pets.

- Abandonment. Many pets are often abandoned when an addict realizes there is no longer time or money to properly care for their pet.

Unfortunately, for many pets the unthinkable happens. Pets often pass away because of improper care and poor nutrition. An animal is virtually helpless and depends on their owner for food, shelter, and love. An addict just can’t give a pet the attention they need.

Fortunately, there is help. If you have a friend or a loved one who is addicted to a substance, now is the time to help. Not only is the addict’s life at stake, but the beloved family pet is also in harm’s way. A great place to start for help with addiction is Rehab-International.org. Here you’ll find many wonderful resources that will help an addict heal and recover.

Remember, getting help for an addiction affects many people – and pets. Get the help needed now, before it’s too late. You could be saving the life of a beloved pet.

Fat fluffy cats are everyone favorite especially for kids. All kids find fat cats similar to a soft toy as they are cute and soft. They have lovely and very pleasing appearance. But rarely people pay attention to the other side of it, fat cats means the cat is suffering from obesity. Cats with obesity problem suffer with lots of diseases and hence there medical expenses leave a big hole in your pocket. Such cats are prone to cardiovascular diseases there heart is weak and need extra attention, care and medicine when compared to normal cats.

Obesity leads to respiratory problems too and makes it difficult for them to be active all the time, and they get tired really fast and will not be able to play with you or your kid for a long time. Increased quantity of fat in their body causes it difficult for them to perform physical activities leads to joints problems. There bones are very delicate if they try to jump from a minimum height of a couch they might end up breaking a leg or two.

Your cat’s life span is reduced if it is overweight as it is prone to injuries and diseases. You might not be intending to feed them less but trust me if you want your cat to live for a long time with you then you should start caring about its health and try to reduce its risk. Start by reducing its diet and making it exercise a bit so that the fat starts burning it will not make a difference in one walk or two it will take time but it is for your pet’s well being. The only difference is we can go to a doctor and speak our problems where are poor animals can not say what they are going through.

It is indeed a great idea if you have decided to buy a pet dog for your house. There could be no better companion for you in the house apart from your family members. But before actually taking the plunge it is very important to be clear about the breed of dog you are planning to buy. Remember breed is very important as far as dog is concerned. Which breed of dog you want to buy would almost entirely depend on your family style and your culture. If you are a family man, better sit down with your family, take them into confidence and then buy the dog. Never go for an unilateral decision because bringing up the dog has to be a joint effort and so the breed of the dog should be one which is liked by the entire family. If your house is small and not the palatial type then you could afford a dog. But if it is a small, compact house then better settle for a smaller dog, because big dogs need lot of moving space and there is always the risk of tripping and falling over it. If you have children then it is better to go for dogs which are soft and sober in nature, because with the aggressive dogs you run the risk of your children being bitten by it.

Next you should go for a dog that is easy to train and maintain. Maintaining huge German Shepherds or other such massive dogs will be a big drain both on your resources and also your time. So maintaining smaller dogs would be a more sensible solution.

Remember choosing the right dog is akin to choosing the right groom or bride for marriage. Lot of thought has to be given because mistakes could prove costly both for the pet and also you. You should ensure that the relationship between you and the pet dog is something that should stand the test of time. It is really important to choose a right breed else you may repent.

For most pet owners, your pet is a member of your family. Just as a human member of your family can get sick or injured, so can your pet. Caring for your pets can be expensive, especially when vet bills rack up because of a sickness or illness. To plan ahead for covering the unexpected expenses of taking care of a sick cat or dog, you can establish a pet insurance policy, put some money away, or take out a loan from lenders such as paydayone.com to cover the unexpected costs.

Insurance

When your pet is still a puppy or kitten, you can establish a health insurance policy. While the policy does not cover all of the healthcare costs for your pet, it does help save you money when paying for emergencies. Contact your vet for information on whether they offer pet insurance or can refer you to a company that does.

Save

You also have the option to establish a special savings account for your pet. You simply open a traditional savings account and deposit money into it on a regular basis. This way, if and when an illness or emergency arises with your pet, you have the money on hand to pay the expenses.

Borrow

When all else fails, you have the option to borrow the money you need. You can take an official loan out from a bank. You can take out a payday loan, which allows you to take an advance on your future earnings from your job. You can also try to borrow the money you need from a family member or friend.
In the end, things happen with the health of your pets just as they do with your own health. Preparing for unexpected expenses is part of being a pet owner. It is best to have the money you need when and if you need it.

The first thing you think about when your four-legged friend goes missing is the possibility that it is lying dead on the road somewhere. For this reason, you might actually be reluctant to start a search, but you need to do so as soon as you notice Fluffy or Rover is missing.

First, sit down and make up some flyers. Do this even before you start a physical search, because by doing so you will be killing two birds with one stone.

Give as complete a description as you can, especially noting any unusual features about your pet. For example, if your pet is missing a leg, ear, or other body part, or its spots or patches are in unusual places, or each eye is a different color, these are things to put on the flyer. Add a picture if you have one.

Make sure your contact information is on there. If you don’t want to put your complete address, you can say something like “Missing from…” and put your street. This way people will have an idea of the area he would normally be seen in. Place each flyer in a gallon resealable bag. This will protect them from the weather, allowing them to remain legible longer.

Get in your car and start scouring your neighborhood. Start out on your street and gradually work your way out further. Depending on how your neighborhood is laid out, work in a circular or square, gradually widening the “borders.”

At every intersection, corner, or anywhere that people have to slow down or make a designated stop, jump out, call your pet, and post the flyers.

If you still have not found your pet after your first search, return home long enough to post a copy of your flyers on social networking sites such as MySpace or Twitter, and also on sites such as Craigslist.

Everyone who has a pet and get very attached to their pet and treat them as a family member. They take care of their pets as they take care of a family member. People tend to get emotionally attached to their four-legged friend. This caring is at times proved to be very expensive when they fall sick or ill. The treatment process of theirs costs much more than usual and the bills are usually heavy. To avoid a portion of these expenses there are insurance options available. You can get your pet insured while they are few days old.

Not complete medical amount is reimbursed back by the insurance but yet it covers at least half of it. Insurance can put some people at ease regarding their financial concerns. Get Insurance: Get an insurance when your pet is young I mean days older. This insurance will not cover all the expenses but helps during emergencies a lot. Get advice from your vet doctor about the insurance or ask him to refer you to the organization that encourages insurance on pets.

Savings for your Pet: One more way to handle the emergency medical problems is to open a savings account for your pet and deposit a specified amount every month in this way your pet will always have a back up for medical help whenever needed and you won’t have to bare the burden at once and repent later on if you do not have money in your hand.

Last option Borrow, When people fail to plan for things in advance they have to take this step either borrow money from a bank or from your family member. As pet’s health is as unpredictable as yours anything can come up any moment and no one can loose there dear pet for financial reasons. Hence for well being of your closest member of family plan everything so that you do not repent later on and enjoy life and have fun with your lovely pets. You really need to pay lot of attention to your pet.

Cat swag is one of the most popular niche markets when it comes to the category of animal items. Cat owners all over the world are purchasing toys for their cat so that they can bond and spend time with their furry friend.

There are multiple benefits for purchasing cat swag. The first benefit is that it allows cats to vent out their predatory instincts in a safe and healthy way. Cats love to bat and hit various items. If they do not have a way to do this, they could take it out on their owners. Some of the best way for cats to take out their predatory instincts is through special cat toys such as cat nip, cat bouncy balls, and even a toy that is similar to a fishing rod that allows the owner to wiggle the item around and have the cat chase it.

The second benefit of cat swag is the ability for the cats and owners to form stronger bonds. Studies have shown that pet owners that spend at least 30 minutes a day with their pet have lower levels of stress than people who do not spend that time with their pet or did not own a pet. Cat swag such as toys and pet costumes are a great way for cats and owners to spend time together and form stronger bonds. All of the cat swag talked about above that allows the cats to get their predatory instincts out will also help with forming personal bonds between cat owners and their pets.

Some cat swag items are just about being silly and fun. Owners have been known to purchase huge cat condos for their pet to sleep in as well as bedding and blankets. These items are more accessories than helping to form the cat/pet owner bond.

It is safe to make your cat walk on leash. Usually cats do not feel comfortable walking with leash as dogs are. But it is necessary for your cat’s safety, especially if you live in a busy neighborhood as such places have a high traffic and are prone to accidents. A leash and a harness will be available at any local pet shop. Avoid placing your cat in danger by taking precautions. A harness is placed around the front legs of the cat to which a leash is connected. Harness is like a jacket for a cat usually carrying it is not comfortable for your pet you need to get it acquainted with it first.

Dogs are usually very comfortable with a leash but this is not the same case with the cats let them get used to it first by making them wear the harness at home and once they are used to it attach a leash which should be long enough to let them go around in a big radius. A collar is also an option to use but cats can come out of it very easily hence it is not advisable for them a harness will make it impossible for them to cut loose. It will take some time for cats to get used to it you have to be very patient while training them for it so that they do not end up getting hit by a car or eaten by a dog and are always in a safe zone and in front of your eyes.

When your cat is used and comfortable with the harness and a leash take it out for frequent walks which will make them more used to it. Put a long leash for them so that they can go as far as they can and feel no pressure only restrict the length when you feel they are entering into a danger zone. How much ever busy your schedule is never take them out without a harness as it will not take much time.

Sometimes work can be fulfilling without the dollar signs or even the 401k. Frankly, that’s how it used to be! Let’s go back as far as biblical times, and you’d know that some jobs didn’t pay anything. The only pay you received for some of the work you did was recognition and favors or food to fill your belly. You didn’t get a weekly paycheck. But is that necessarily a bad thing?

That is the norm for animal breeders. It’s not about the money. It’s about the joy of breeding and bringing up high-quality animals to either be sold or worked in shows. The cost of breeding an animal far exceeds any profit a breeder might make: you have dental costs, vet costs, grooming costs, breeding permit costs, and food costs. It all adds up. Not to mention if you do in fact send your breed to shows, particularly if you breed dogs, there’s an extra cost to register your animal along with the added training expense. And who says your dog would win?

So why would anyone want to participate in the breeding business? If not for the money then . . .

No, there’s a greater benefit to breeding any animal. The heartwarming joy and ability to carry on the beauty of any breed of animal is the reward. Naturally, any income can be dealt with under the table, so you don’t pay any income taxes for being a breeder. If you do, though, then you can even claim your animals on your taxes, so long as your animals are solely used for breeding. The truth is every single year breeders actually lose money doing what they do. But they’re driven by it. To see a new life born, be it pups or kittens or whatever animal—that’s their payoff.

There are days when it would seem the world would be a better place if our work was more like that.

The worst tragedy is to loose your dearest family member your “PET”. When you find that your pet is missing you would like to turn all stones possible in search of him. I can suggest you few ways to retrieve your friend back. Firstly, do not let your mind conclude negative things till you have done everything in your hand to search.

Start your search by inquiring with your neighbors, if anyone has seen him roaming around that will be a great help. If your neighborhood is of no help then prepare posters of your missing pet add a description and a photograph to it. Try to describe your pet in detail emphasizing more on the appearance by mentioning anything that will separate him from other pets, like if he is missing any part of the body or about the color of patches he has or any other thing that will make people to recognize him as soon as they set eyes on him.

Do not forget to provide your contact information on it in a hurry, otherwise after finding your pet people would have no idea how to contact you. Also mention your area code so that people staying nearby pay more attention as it is common to find the pet around your area. Then the next thing you have to do is start distributing it and pasting it everywhere. Select your spots carefully which is visible to most of the people, try to select a spot where people mostly gather like near a food cart or a newspaper stand where people stop by.

Ensure that you paste it in your complete area and also in the areas around you. Your job is not over after this you should keep the search on till the time it is day try to check out empty and deserted lanes. It is quite possible that he left the house following some other pet and could not find way back and could be cuddling in some corner waiting for you to come and pick him up.

While it may be cute to have a slightly overweight cat, it really does more harm than good. Obesity or being over-weight is just as dangerous for a cat as it can be for a human adult or child. Cats with more than a couple of extra pounds can have severe cardiovascular problems. For extra bit of weight your cat has, the cats body will have to make and produce extra capillaries and veins, to pump blood to the new pounds the cat has put on. Cats with extra weight on their bodies will also have respiratory problems. The heavier a cat gets, the harder it will be for the cat to exercise and may cause problems with their joints; especially in a cats hips.

Over weight cats are more prone to injuries. If they are severely overweight and jump off of a couch your cat could break its leg or legs. When a cat is overweight they become lethargic, causing digestive problems, making it harder for your cat to go to the bathroom and could cause a rupture colon of fecal matter stays in the intestine for too long. Obesity can lead to a number of different disorders and in an older cat can even cause death. If your cat is overweight and experiencing these health disorders you probably never even thought that your cat being overweight had something to do with it, but it does. It may seem cruel to deny your furry fat cat a treat or a little extra to eat, but if you want to keep your cat around for awhile and value you the quality of their life, you may need to place your cat on a diet to keep them healthy and around for years to come; living happy and peppy, instead of lazy and sick.

It is always a good idea to get indoor cats outdoors, but you don’t want to just let them go off on their own. If you live in a very busy neighborhood in the city where there are cars and many dangers that your cat can encounter that may put them in danger there are ways to take your cat outside without them getting into trouble and still allow you to keep a close eye on them. You can buy a harness and leash for your cat from many pet stores. A harness goes around the cat’s front legs and chest and the leash, which should be about six foot long, will connect to the harness. Collars can be used instead of a harness, but these are very easy for your cat to get away from. Just like walking a dog you can walk your feline friend, however; getting a cat used to walking around on a leash may be a little trickier than it is with a dog.

If your once friendly kitty cat is now acting like a maniac and resisting the new idea to walk on a leash there are certain things you can try to get him or her used to the idea. Place the harness on her, without the leash connected to it, and leave it on her. Only leave it on for a few minutes and gradually a little longer until she gets used to having it on. Next attach the leash part of it and do the same thing that you did with the harness. When your cat is ready, he or she will let you walk her, and when he/she does take her outside. Do not tug on the leash or harness; let your cat do the walking unless they are roaming to area that may not be safe. Gradually take her out more and more, and in no time you will have your cat leash walking.

It’s very common to see people feeding their cats milk as an occasional treat and sometimes everyday; but just because that’s what you see others doing, whether it be in life or on T.V., doesn’t mean it’s right or the best thing to have in a cat’s diet. Cats can tolerate milk in their diet for a while, but after a while more often than not, they will develop and intolerance for it. Too much milk in a cat’s diet will cause them to develop lactose intolerance and digesting the sugars in the milk will cause stomach upset. When a cat has stomach issues from drinking milk, diarrhea can be a problem and lead to dehydration if you keep feeding her milk. Keep a bowl of water available for cat all times of the day to keep him/her hydrated if this happens. If you regularly are feeding or letting your cat drink milk, keep an eye on her stools in the litter box. If you notice a change in consistency or color of your cats stools, cut out all the milk for a couple of days and see if this clears up any problems. If you take the milk out of your cat’s diet and her stools go back to normal, it’s best to quit giving her milk, as it is like she has built intolerance for it. Find another treat you can use to satisfy your cat instead of milk. Treats are nice, but there are also fun little kitty cat toys out there for your cat to play with that won’t put weight on your kitty and keep him/her in great shape. Make milk a treat for your kitty once a month at a time when he/she is being an especially good cat or if you just are looking to give your cat a nice surprise.

There are many different foods available for your cat on the shelves of grocery stores and pet stores. There are three different types of cat food that you can expect to find on any store shelves and those are dry foods, soft and moist foods, and canned foods. The great thing about having so many varieties is that there is food for any cat’s taste, medical condition or age. With the different varieties and formulated brands for kittens to adults you can keep your cat in the best shape ever just with proper food consumption.
Dry cat food products are hard crunchy kibbles that helps keep a cats teeth as clean as can be. When a cat bites down into a piece of kibble the food scratches the teeth removing any plaque and tartar build up that has accumulated on his or her littler teeth. Dry food also keeps longer in the pantry, meaning, nor do they need to be refrigerated.
Soft and moist food products are what most home owners choose to feed their cats. These cat foods offer the freshness of canned cat food, but also keep teeth clean and are easier to chew. Soft and moist foods stay fresh for a descent amount of time, but not as long as dry cat food.
Canned cat foods are usually a kitty’s favorite, but are not always the best for a pet owner’s budget. Once you open a can of this cat food it needs to placed in a plastic container and placed in the refrigerator if your cat doesn’t eat all of it at one time or it will spoil. Canned cat food should not be left in the refrigerator any more than 24 to 48 hours.

Unlike humans, cats do not need a variety of foods to keep their bodies functioning – in fact, cat foods are blended so well that there is absolutely no need to add anything else to their diet because as long as they are eating, they are getting enough vitamins. Adding table scraps or human food to a cat’s diet can upset your cats intestinal tract as well as cause other problems.
Milk has a sugar that is hard to digest in cats. Your cat can easily develop intolerance to milk, which can upset his tummy and cause diarrhea.
Raw eggs can cause a deficiency in certain vitamins leading to dermatitis and hair loss. Dermatitis is a type of inflammation of the skin which is very dry and itchy, leading to hair loss.
Raw fish can cause vitamin deficiencies just as raw eggs do, but eating raw fish for your cat is more dangerous. Raw fish can cause anorexia, weakness and lethargy as well as seizure that can lead to death.
Although we may associate meat or meat by-products with a cat’s nutritional needs, it must be combined with other ingredients to give complete nutrition. Raw meats may contain parasites, and cooked meats can be high in fat and do not contain a proper balance of nutrients.
Meat can be given to cats as long as it isn’t fatty and is mixed properly to meet nutritional needs in a cat, but certain meats, such as liver can cause vitamin A toxicity. When giving your cats meat be sure to remove any small bones like those from a chicken or piece of pork chop so they do not get choked.
If you have any questions about what a cat should or should not eat do not hesitate to call your local veterinarian and ask what he/she recommends and follow the advice as needed to keep your cat as healthy as possible.

Everyone has a cat that acts a little odd sometimes and goes after or would rather eat dog food instead of the stuff actually made for him or her. Most people don’t pay it any mind and just continue to let their cat do this when they feel like. Letting your cat eat your dog’s food isn’t the best idea. If your cat is only eating the dog food once or twice a month this isn’t going to hurt him, but if your cat wants dog food everyday over his own cat food, you could have a problem on your hands. Cats are strictly carnivores, meaning they only eat meat. Dogs on the other hand are omnivores, meaning they eat meat and plants. Dog food does not give your cat with enough protein and can make a cat seriously ill. Not only does dog food not carry enough protein, but cats also need a certain amount of B vitamins that aren’t found in dog for either. Dogs will be fine if they strictly eat cat food. Cat food is very fattening for a dog, so if you feed your dog a cup of dry dog food he would probably only need a half a cup of cat food to get him by. Being overweight isn’t good for a cat or a dog, so it would be best just to keep a dog out of cat food all together. If you are worried about your animals getting into each other’s food, try feeding them in separate rooms or feed one indoors and one outdoors. If you are still having problems with your furry little critters wanting to eat the wrong food contact your local veterinarian and ask him or her about any concerns you have. If your veterinarian thinks there may be a problem he or she will tell you to bring your animals in for a visit.

Kittens need twice as much energy from food for each pound they are in weight versus an adult cat. Little kitties are rapidly growing, making the need for more vitamins and nutrients crucial in raising a healthy kitten. Most kittens are weaned by six or eight weeks of age and as soon as they are should be started on a regular diet. Start kittens out with canned food or moistened dry food. Do not be alarmed if it seems that your kitty isn’t eating very much. Kittens are exploring their new home and tend to eat sporadically several times a day. If you notice that your kitten isn’t eating, make sure the food you are giving her isn’t spoiled. After several hours, canned food or wet dry food can spoil if it’s left out for too long. Place canned food into the fridge and discard any spoiled wet-dry food. If you are keeping your kittens food fresh, but they are still not eating, look for other sign that could indicate illness. Look for diarrhea, watery eyes, and runny nose or urination problems. If you notice any of these contact your local veterinarian immediately, there are many viruses a kitten can catch; some viruses are very dangerous. Feed your kitten twice a day, but if you have more than one, keep them separated so it’s easier to notice any changes in your kitten’s behavior. If feeding your kitten two times a day is making them obese contact your veterinarian and see if the amount of food your kitten is eating needs to be adjusted. Your veterinarian can also help you with choosing the best food for your kitten, and which food will most likely suit your cat’s needs for a number of income households. Cat foods may range in price and manufacturer, but the just because the price is higher doesn’t mean it’s the best option available for your cute kitten.

Adult cats do not need to be fed as many times a day as kittens do, however; their nutrition is just as important to make sure they stay healthy. Any cat food that is suitable for cats over one years of age is fine to help an adult cat maintain a healthy diet. There isn’t a set amount of food your adult cat should be eating, all cats are different and the amount of food they eat depends on their metabolism and daily activity. Your cat is healthy is he is well proportioned, you can visibly see his waist behind his ribcage and as you run your hand over your cats ribcage you can feel ribs. If you can’t feel his or her ribs or see their waist your animal may be overweight or possibly obese. Contact your cat’s veterinarian if you think your cat may not be eating enough or is just the opposite overweight. Your vet may tell you to start picking up your cat’s food bowl instead of leaving it down all day or feeding your cat half of the amount you were previously feeding him or her. While the vet may recommend that you pick up the food, you should always have water available all the time for your cat to have access to. Do not allow your cat to eat dog food if there is a dog eating in your home as well. Cats require strictly protein in their diet and dog food will not meet a cats nutritional needs. If dog food is eaten by a cat often your cat can experience several different vitamin deficiencies and if they aren’t caught in time can lead to death. If you notice your cat not eating or showing signs of illness contact your local veterinarian to narrow down the possible problem.

Properly feeding a female cat when she is pregnant or feeding is extremely important. A female cat should be eating food that is right for any age. Changes in your kitty’s body will cause her to gain weight and want to eat more. Contact a veterinarian if your cat is not eating properly, but keep in mind that the closer she gets to having kittens, the more she will lose an appetite for food. Do not worry her appetite will return to normal when she has her kitties after a couple of days. If you notice your female kitty losing weight, instead of gaining weight, during her pregnancy – she may be sick and need proper medical attention to make sure her kittens stay healthy.
When a momma cat has to feed her little kitten milk she will need to be fed three times a day. If you are feeding your female dry cat food moisten it a bit. This keeps her hydrated and may encourage older kittens to eat real food to help kick-start the weaning process. At five to six weeks the momma cat will begin weaning her kittens. Keep moist food available to your babies so they are encouraged to start eating real food. If you moisten the food with warm water the smell will attract the baby kittens to it. At this time you should begin to gradually start feeding the momma cat less and less until she is being fed the same amount of food before she was pregnant; this may take five to seven days. All questions and concerns about the amount of food your momma cat should be eating for the weeks of gestation to the end of lactation should be discussed with a veterinarian. Your veterinarian will direct you on what foods to buy and what is normal behavior for a cat that’s pregnant or lactating.

Little kittens are so tiny and cute when they are born, and like most animal mammals, cats come into this world with their small eyes closed. Kitten eyes open around ten to fourteen days old, and during the time it takes them to open, their little bodies are still forming and more developments are still taking place in the eyes. When a kitten’s eyes open for the first time they are blue. Some kittens may open one eye at a time; others may open up together and have a mucous film, like sleep, in the corners of their eyes. Just take a warm wash rag a gently rub the crusty mucous from their eyes so they don’t become irritated or infected. Focusing on objects is very difficult for a kitten to do for the first two to three weeks after their eyes open, but over time will improve as their eyes learn to adjust to light, dark and different objects. When kittens get around three months of age their little eyes will begin to change color. The colors of a kitten’s eye vary and can be green, gold, copper and even blue. Only certain cats keep blue eyes, such as Balinese, Ragdolls, Siamese and Birman cats. When a cat gets to three months of age and their eye color changes for the last time their eyes are healthy and able to focus at any time; day or night. Since most cats, both domesticated and non-domesticated, like to hunt at night their eye sight in the darkness is very important for sneaking up on prey or small animals to live off of. For other questions about your cat’s eye sight contact your local veterinarian, for more information on how a cat’s eyesight works. They will be sure to help and answer your questions as best possible, after all, it’s what they are there for.

Cats and humans are somewhat a like when it comes to teeth. Just as humans develop two sets of teeth cats do to. A cat’s first set of teeth are called milk teeth and they are given 26 of these little baby teeth. Milk teeth do not start to come in until three to four weeks of age, to begin the process of weaning from the momma. Kittens can begin eating a bit of moist cat food at this age, but it is not recommended to feed kittens before they get their teeth. Not only can they not chew the food, but they don’t have the enzymes in their intestines to properly break down the food. Contact your veterinarian if you are concerned about what to feed your kitten. If your kitten doesn’t have a mommy any more keep feeding the kittens prescribed milk and slowly introduce moist or canned food to them, when they get their milk or baby teeth in at four weeks old.
After several months with milk teeth, your little kitten will begin losing those teeth and replacing them with new teeth. These teeth are strong and will be their permanent adult teeth. You may notice your kitty chewing on some odd things; this makes the process of losing teeth easier and less painful by soothing the gums. When a kitten is between eight and nine months old, he or she will have thirty new teeth. This is his full set of adult teeth, and they are very sharp. Your veterinarian will be able to prescribe something for your kitten if you notice they are having a difficult time when their adult teeth are coming in. Cats are strong creatures and will get through the painful process of growing teeth, if you notice any changes in your cats behavior that are serious, don’t hesitate to contact your cat’s vet.

Kittens, like human babies, will differ about when they will start eating real cat food and quit drinking milk. Some little kittens will begin to eat cat food at about three to four weeks old as they begin to get their baby teeth or milk teeth in. Kittens won’t be able to eat dry cat food but will be able to eat moistened or canned cat food. Other kittens even though they may have teeth to eat with will not even think about touching real cat food until they are no longer drinking milk; this is usually around eight weeks of age when the mother decides to no longer let her precious little kittens feed off of her. At about five weeks of age the mother will start the weaning process and canned cat food should be introduced to kittens to help with the weaning process. Remember kittens eat sporadically, not at specific times, keep food down throughout the day or as long as possible to make sure they are staying healthy. Kittens will nurse until they are about eight weeks old, but may continue for twelve weeks, while eating a little bit of canned cat food. Once the kittens are fully weaned do not be surprised if they aren’t eating a large amount of canned food for the first couple of days; this will take some time getting used to. The proper weight gain every week for a kitten is about four ounces. If you are concerned that your kittens are not gaining enough weight, aren’t eating enough or have developed diarrhea contact your veterinarian so he or she can help resolve your kitty’s failure to thrive. Keeping your kittens healthy at an early age will make sure he or she is a healthy kitty for many years to come.

It doesn’t take a genius to figure out cats are nocturnal creatures, and if you have a kitten who is very playful on top of that, as a pet owner your night may be very sleepless until you get used to your cat’s nighttime antics or they get used to yours. The first night of getting your kitten you need to set some rules that they will be able to abide by so you can get your sleep, but they can still roam, if you allow them too.
Make a bed that is specifically for your furry little kitten. Place his or her favorite toys into his newly made cat bed; this will make your kitty more likely to lay there if they recognize a familiar toy or pillow. You can buy a bed or make your own out of old blankets. Do what suits you and your cat’s needs the best.
If you are going to let your cat roam in the house at night, be sure to remove any food from your counter tops and possible poisonous plants that may be in pots around your kitchen. Also remove any breakables that may be lying about. Cats have a tendency to jump on table tops and counters and you don’t want a mess when you wake up the next morning and walk into your kitchen. If you don’t feel comfortable allowing your cat roaming the house at night or aren’t able to remove breakable things your cat could get to place him or her into a warm room such as a spare bedroom or bathroom so he can’t ruin any of your precious belongings.
If you want your cat to get on your sleeping schedule try placing your kitten into a small crate at night in a warm room. This will keep your kitten confined to one area. Place blankets to keep him warm and comfortable for a great night’s sleep.

Sometimes when a pet owner gets a new kitten and the kitten is pulled away from their normal environment; it’s not unusual for the kitten to be a little scared for the first couple of days. There are a couple tips and tricks for getting a new kitten used to his or her new family. Be sure to hold your kitten when you get a chance. He or she might be tense for a minute or two, just stroke your kitten until he or she relaxes, if the kitten is still frightened and doesn’t relax gently place the kitty back on the floor or chair and try again later. Be sure that when you are doing regular activities or walking around the house to not make sudden movements or loud noises around your cat. Try not to vacuum around your kitten for the first couple of days. When you approach your kitten use a gently, low voice and kneel to get to your cat’s level so you don’t frighten her. Get your kitten adjusted to certain feeding times and keep to that schedule. When you feed your kitten, he or she will associate you with food. Gently pet and sweetly talk to your cat as he or she eats to make him feel more at ease around you. Make sure you keep plenty of interactive toys around that you can use to bond with your kitten. When your kitten is playing she will get used to being around you more and as a result become more comfortable about being with you. Remember that every kitten or cat is different and it may take a lot longer for some kittens to adjust, but most only take a couple of days. If you are concerned about your kittens behavior contact your veterinarian for any questions you might have.

It isn’t uncommon for some cat owners to realize, after they’ve gotten a cat, that they either have allergies or have developed allergies to their cat. If you are a cat owner who has pet allergies, you do not need to necessarily get rid of your cat. You and your cat can get along just fine if you have allergies or have sensitivity to your kitty; you just need to know what causes certain pet allergies and how to reduce the effects. Certain allergens can collect in a cat’s fur which causes allergies and proteins in a cat’s saliva may cause allergies to others. The best thing to do if you have a cat and have allergies is to only own one cat and preferably a short-haired cat. If you wish to minimize your allergic reactions to your furry feline friend brush your cat outside. Cats have dander in their fur and most pet owners that have that have allergic reactions to cats are allergic to dander. Brush your cat often to keep shedding hair off of your cat’s body, but do not brush your cat inside. Brush your cat outside so any hair not collected in the brush will not collect on the floor and furniture of your home. Be sure to vacuum and sweep everyday to keep cat hair and dander out of your home. You may even need to vacuum and sweep more than once a day in areas that your cat is often lying around at; especially if this is an area you spend a lot of time in. Whenever you touch or pet your furry kitty be sure to wash your hands immediately after. This will eliminate dander getting into your eyes, mouth or nose that may cause an allergic reaction. If you continue to have allergic reaction to your cat see an allergists and medicine may be prescribed so you and your furry friend can get along.

Animal pictures can be difficult to take. Either your cat is too active to take a picture of or he or she isn’t paying you any attention. It’s often best to always have help when you are taking pictures of your furry little feline friend. Have your accomplice, or the person that’s going to help you take photographs play with your kitty to get him or her in a playful mood. Bring out all of her favorite toys and have your accomplice rolling balls around, bouncing feathers or whatever consists of your kitty’s favorite toys or treats. When your cat starts playing, get ready to start taking some fantastic photos. The best conditions for taking pictures of your feline friend is outside, when it’s bright and sunny. When taking pictures of your cat inside the home, improper lighting can result in red-eyed images, but these can often be fixed with photo editing programs, so the choice of where to take photos is really up to you and where you would be the most comfortable. You can disable the flash when you are indoors to reduce red-eye, but you need to have the room you are taking photographs in to have a lot of light from open windows or lamps. Most cameras work best with taking pictures when the subject or cat in this case is being still, but some work specifically for taking moving pictures. Also remember when taking a picture of your furry feline friend that your cat isn’t blending in with his surroundings. For example if your cat is black and you want to take a picture of him or her laying on your navy blue cat, this probably won’t work, your cat will just blend in with the couch and all you will be able to see is his eyes. If you had a white cat on a navy blue couch you photo of your feline would turn out perfect.

Many cat or pet owners in general have feline “babies” that are like their children before they have children. Sometimes when pet owners decide to start a real family of their own and introduce a new family member that takes up most of their time, your little kitty can get jealous and have a hard time transitioning to your only “baby” to not being your baby at all. The best way to get your furry feline accustomed to the idea of a new family member you will need to get him or her used to the idea before the baby arrives. A few weeks before your new baby arrives, start distancing yourself away from your cat. This means to start spending less time with your kitty. When you do spend a little time with your cat, take him or her into the babies nursery or where the baby will be sleeping and let them smell anything new that may be in there, such as blankets, lotions and soaps and diapers. Let your cat smell anything the baby will be using. When your baby arrives home slowly introduce the two. Allow your feline friend to get into your lap when you are holding the baby. Don’t allow the cat to get in your baby’s face or lick him or her. Only allow your cat to sniff the baby. It may take a couple of days, but pretty soon your cat will love the new baby. When the baby cries your cat will want to know what’s wrong and your cat will be right beside you when you bathe your baby or care for her in anyway. Be careful though, when your baby is sleeping in his or her crib keep the nursery door closed. You do not want your cat to jump into the crib and lay on top of the baby while she is sleeping, this could be dangerous.

When cat owners are bringing a baby home for the first time their biggest concern is making sure that baby is safe from harm. Many believe that cats can be harmful to a baby’s health, but there is no definite evidence that points to a cat being harmful or helpful to a baby’s health. A study in Detroit Michigan at the Henry Ford Hospital discovered that babies and small children that were exposed to cats at an early age had fewer problems with allergies than the small children that weren’t raised in a household with at least one cat. This study from Henry Ford Hospital had many doctors and scientist thinking that having a cat or cats around when children are small may help develop a stronger immune system, making them less likely to be sick as opposed to children who weren’t raised with cats.
Some cat owners may also believe that a cat may try to hurt their baby because they will become jealous. The cat may become jealous of the baby at some point, but if the cat is properly introduced and acclimated to the presence of a new baby there shouldn’t be any problems; if anything the cat will be like an extra look out for you when the baby is crying and needing your help. The most dangerous thing about cats being around a newborn baby is that they, the cat, may climb in the crib. Small infants can’t move much and if a cat lies down and covers the baby’s airway the child may suffocate; causing serious injuries and even death if not caught in time. Always keep the nursery door shut where a cat cannot enter. This will keep your newborn baby safe, as well as help your mental health as a pet owner knowing that your cat isn’t in your baby’s room.

As pet owners, we like to have as many animals as possible, but if you only like cats and want to have a household of cats this may become a problem. Most cats like to be the only cat living in their home, as they are very solitary creatures. If you’ve gotten yourself a new kitten or cat and want to introduce your old one to the new one in a friendly way, here are a few tips that may help. Remember, you old cat will eventually adjust to the new kitty in the household; it may take time though and make sure you are willing to take the time needed.
Place the new cat in a spare bedroom or bathroom for a day or two. This may seem mean, but it isn’t. This will give the new cat time to settle down is his or her new environment and get comfortable. This will give your older cat time to learn the new cat’s scent and get used to it being around the house. If you just let both cats roam without properly introducing them the new cat, being nervous in a new environment, will more than likely lash out and the old cat will take a new cat in the home as being a threat and lash out.
Give the new cat or kitten an area to eat at that is different from the old cat’s eating place. You can make it across the room, but do not let both cats eat next to one another until they are nice. You may even want to feed each of them at separate times if aren’t able to feed them in different areas. You will want to give the new cat his or her own litter box as well; especially if there are two male cats in the house. These changes won’t last forever only until the cats get used to being around one another.

If you are a cat owner, then chances are you know how much they love to play. Purchasing special made cat toys from pet stores is very expensive and there are always other alternatives. You can easily find things around your home that your playful kitty cat would love to play with, and more than likely they’ve found them already, but you haven’t noticed. Simple things found around your house that would make kitty playtime fun are flashlights, balled up pieces of paper, balls of yarn and many others. Just watch what your cat gets into. Your cat isn’t getting into these things to be bad or mischievous they are trying to find something to play with. Letting a cat play will a balled up piece of paper is better than your feline attacking the goldfish in the fish bowl because he or she was bored. If you want to get really creative and make a toy for your cat yourself here are a few ideas. Tie a piece of ribbon to a stick and set the stick somewhere so that the ribbon hangs down in mid-air. Your cat will love to jump up and try to slap at the ribbon hanging at the end of the stick. You can also place a couple of dry beans into an emptied plastic water bottle. You don’t need any more than maybe 10 beans; this will make enough noise to get your kitty cat interested. The noise will intrigue your cat as he or she slaps it all over the house. This craft, however; isn’t the best toy for your cat if you like to have a quiet household. If you don’t think any of the toys will work for your cat, just keep a close on eye on what your cat like to play with around the house on a regular basis, and create a toy from that.

thousand years ago because bones of cats, mice and humans
were found buried together on the ancient island of Cyprus. In
ancient Egypt, the cat was a pet at least five thousand
years ago. The cat was considered to be a sacred animal in
ancient Egypt. Cats are held sacred in Buddhism. Much appreciated
by the Buddhists was the capacity of cats for meditation which
they sensed in cats. The Birman cat descends from cats that
were venerated as gods in the Buddhist temples. The Buddhist
priests believed that the faithful returned to earth in the
form of a cat. In Burma, the Burmese cats are held to be
sacred. The Birman cat descends from cats that were venerated as
gods in the Buddhist temples. The Buddhist priests believed that
the faithful returned to earth in the form of a cat. In
Buddhism, it is believed that on the death of a person who had
reached the highest levels of spirituality the soul entered the
body of a cat. It remained there until the cat died, when the
soul entered paradise. Even today, in some Asiatic sanctuaries,
divine powers are attributed to the cat and it is believed
that in the hereafter the soul of cat speaks to Buddha in
favor of its owner that still lives on earth. Among the most
charming of Japanese cats is Maneki-Neko, a small cat believed
to ensure happiness and good luck. Japanese Buddhists venerate
cats after their death. The temple of Go – To – Ku – Ji in Tokyo
is dedicated to cats. Vested priests serve the temple and intone
chants for feline souls. Crowded into the temple are sculptures
paintings and relief carvings of cats. In each of these, the cat
has a paw raised as if in greeting, the classical pose of the
cat Maneki – Neko. Cats continue to be worshiped as deities in
countries such as Thailand and China. The power of cats to see
in the dark was also considered useful to hold evil spirits
at way, since it was usually thought that eyes of cat were
more active at night, the walls of many Asiatic houses were
adorned with images of cats. In England, a black cat sitting in
a house on a wedding day is thought to bring good luck. In
Thailand, a Diamond eyed cat is believed to be a symbol of
good luck. In South America, the Incas revered sacred cats,
representations of which can be seen in pre-Columbian Peruvian
artifacts. The earliest representations of domestic cat were
Egyptian tomb paintings and sculpture. By the 5th
century B.C., images of cats appeared on Greek coins, and later
they were depicted in Roman mosaics and paintings and on
earthenware, coins and shields. Cats have reputation for having
nine lives. Cats are very affectionate towards human beings. The
Siamese breed of cats are very affectionate towards people. Cats can
recognize footsteps of their owner from hundreds of feet away.
Cats are easy to care as compared to dogs. Outdoor cats bury
their faeces. Cats groom themselves with their saliva. The cats
tongue, saliva and paws help in grooming cats themselves. Cats
groom themselves about twenty times in a day. Kittens start
cleaning or grooming themselves at the age of one month. All
cats generally do not need bath. Cats are easiest to care out of
all domestic animals. Cats are most independent domestic animals.
Cats do not need care and attention. Cats are also small in
size. Cats also exercise themselves. Cats are most playful out of
all domestic animals. Kittens play themselves by batting and
tossing small objects, hunting and by jumping in and out of
boxes. Cats love to hide in cardboard boxes, drawer or laundry
basket. Kittens begin playing with toys at the age of four
weeks and their enjoyment becomes more elaborate as they grow.
Kittens that have free access to a terrace or garden will
amuse themselves by running after a butterfly, bug, insect or
leaf. Cats enjoy being stroked by their owner. Scientific studies
have shown that stroking a pet cat or kitten and playing with
a pet cat or kitten reduce stress and anxiety and lowers the
blood pressure of its owner. Cats can also learn to live with
other domestic pets. The fur of cats is soft and beautiful.
Cats are comfort – loving creatures, seemingly addicted to warmth
and luxury. Cats also seem to grow fond of their owners,
adopting them almost as parents. Cats are available in many coat
colours. Cats and kittens use litter boxes or toilet and unlike
dogs, cats do not need to be walked. Dogs are not able to use
litter box and toilet and dogs need to be walked. Kittens begin
using litter box at just five or six weeks age. The litter
boxes of cats should be filled with sand, regular clay, clumping
clay or wooden pallets. Childrens and adults both enjoy
playing with cats. Kittens should be domesticated at the age of
two months. The weight of a newborn kitten is about hundred
grams. Many cat magazines are published in the USA , UK, and
other countries each year. Cats have been portayed in the works
of many great artists including Leonardo Da Vinci, Albrecht Durer,
Paul Gauguin, Theodore Gericault, William Hogarth, Edouard Manet and
Pablo Picasso. Most cats like to become friendly with human
beings while few of them want to be left alone. Kittens are
most playful out of all domestic animals. All kittens play by
themselves by finding amusement or satisfaction with odd trinkets
or by jumping in and out of boxes, hunting and poking, batting
and tossing small objects. Kittens also exercise themselves.
Keeping cats as pets can bring cheerfulness and for the aged,
emotionally disturbed and prison population they bring about
amazing transformation. Cats can be lifesaver for their owner. A
cat of UK saved his owner’s life by signaling that the
gas cooker had been left on with his paw.A cat named Mourka
delivered vital messages from Russian scouts about the enemy’s
gun replacements. According to news published in newspaper, in
August 2000 cat named Jessie saved her owner Margaret Hayward’s
life by jumping up and down on her owner’s bed in order to
wake her when the home caught fire. A cat named Scarlett of New
York ran into a burning house five times in order to save
her kittens. Some cats can protect their owner from thieves. A
cat of UK actually alerted his owners to a real burglar by
running up and down the stairs hissing and growling. A cat
saved her kittens from a burning building.
Cats are thought to
protect humans from bad evils. Farmers and shopkeepers keep
cats to protect food grains from rats as well as to
prevent diseases like Plague which are spread by rats.
Butchers, bakers, grocers, bookstore owners as well as restaurant
owners and stationary store owners domesticate cats in order
to keep their premises free of rats and mice. Due to the lack
of cats, two thirds of the European human population died of
the Plague in the past. Cats have been credited with the the
ability to predict earthquakes. Cats can hear ultrasonic waves.
Cats and kittens are kittens are very photogenic and can be
easily be used to advertise any product like greeting cards,
milk products, candy boxes, calendars, toys and food. Cats sense of
hearing is one of the highest in animal kingdom. Cats sense of
hearing is greater than human beings. The anatomy of cat is
very similar to human beings. Cats were even worshipped as
feline goddess Bast or feline goddess Bastet or feline goddess
Pasht in ancient Egypt for more than two thousand years. The
Feline goddess Bastet had body of a woman and head of a cat.
The goddess Bastet was associated with fertility, motherhood,
grace and beauty. It was believed that the goddess Bastet
controlled the fertility of man and beast, cured illness and
watched over the souls of the dead. The largest temple of
goddess Bastet was built in the ancient city of Bubastis about
4500 years ago. Aelurus, an Egyptian cat god, represented the moon.
In ancient Egypt, if a house caught fire, the rule went like this,
save pet cats first and humans second. In ancient Egypt, a
person killing a cat was punishable by death. In ancient Egypt,
after death of cats, they were mummified and decorated, some
with rock crystal. The dead bodies of cats were then wrapped
in rich bandages of various colours. The mummified rats and
saucers of milk were kept near cats. The faces of cats were
covered by masks on which the nose, eyes, ears and whiskers were
evident. The mummified cats were then placed in boxes made
of wood or bronze. These boxes were then placed in cat
tombs or pyramids. In ancient Egypt, the cat mummies outnumbered
human mummies. In an ancient capital city of Egypt, more than
300000 cat mummies were found in 1890. If a pet cat in
ancient Egypt died, then all the family members used to
shave their eyebrows. If a pet cat in ancient Egypt died, then
the entire family went into elaborate mourning with chanting
and pounding of chests as an outward sign of grief. When a
pet cat in ancient Egypt died, then all the family members used
to shave their eyebrows as sign of sorrow. The Egyptians
believed that divinities assumed the semblance of a cat, and so
the high prists decreed divine orders and omens of the future
according to its behaviour. The ancient Egyptians used cats not
only as hunters of mice but also as catchers of fish as well.
According to Roman Mythology, Diana the roman goddess of hunting
angered the giants by taking a cat form. Cats have the ability
to predict earthquakes. Cats have barometric sensitivity or sixth
sense. Cats can forewarn us of coming storm, coming rainfall and
change in atmosphere. There is a popular notion that states when
a cat licks its paw or puts it in its ear, it is a sign of
rain or change in atmosphere. Many myths and superstitions
are associated with cats. Some people thought that witches
could change themselves into cats. Some people believe that
a black cat crossing path of a person means bad luck. Some
people think that cats possess magical powers while some
people think cats as extraterrestrial creatures. Some people
think that cats have the ability to predict future. All cats
are believed to have nine lives. In parts of UK , a cat
washing its face with water is said to foretell rain. In
UK and Scotland, a black cat crossing path of a person
means good luck. White cats are thought to bring good
luck in USA. The famous cats in cartoon include Tom,
Garfield, Felix, Krazy cat, Top cat, Sylvester, Courageous
cat and Azrael.

The brain weight to body weight ratio
in cats is greater in cats as
compared to Dogs. The cat has an ample
and very advanced cerebral hemisphere, typical
of intelligent creatures. Cerebellum is well
developed in brain of a cat. Cats are
used in scientific research. The biochemistry

explored by stimulating or destroying certain areas in cat brains.
Cats can distinguish complex shapes. Cats can distinguish complex

geometrical shapes such as triangle, circle and square. Cats can

can also distinguish between colours. Cats are used in scientific

studies related to vision because cats have more nerve cells in

mammals. Cats have also been used in sleep studies. There are same

types of sleep stages in cats and human beings having similar wave

courageous and vile. Cats do very well in psychomatric tests. Cats

have excellent observation power. Cats exhibit considerable aptitude for
learning by observation and experience. Observation power of cats is

greater than any other domestic animal. Memory of cats is sharper

than any other animal. Like human beings cats have both long term

and short term memory. Cats have excellent memories. The knowledge
attained by cat by means of observation, trial and error is retained

for whole life. According to the research work done at University of

times more than that of dogs.
A cat never forget in its life. Cats retain information obtained by

means of observation throughout their life. Cats can easily adapt to

a change in circumstances because they remember what they learn and

then adapt their experiences to various new situations as they

present themselves. Cats learn by observation, imitation, trial and error
just like human beings do. Cats have emotions and feelings like human

about thirty percent of its life in grooming themselves. Cats groom

themselves by their saliva. Cats clean their body about twenty times

in a day. Cats are most skillful hunters out of all animals. Cats

are excellent swimmers. Cats are social animals like human beings. Like

human beings, different cats have different personalities. Cats are most
independent out of all domestic animals. A pet cat will respond and

answer to speech and seems to enjoy human companionship. Cats

communicate by means of their body language, facial expressions, table

gestures, head, eyes, ears, tails, scent glands, trample by paws, salivation
and different vocal sounds. The body language of cats is expressed

with more than sixty gestures. The Language of cats is universal. For

example, dilated pupils of eyes of a cat means fear while partially

closed eyes means relaxation. An angry cat will have narrow pupils.
Trampling by paws means affection and love. Erect ears of a cat

pointing forwards means relaxation while ears folded backwards means

warning. Cats knead their paws when they are happy. A cat never meow

at another cat because cats use this sound for human beings. Slow

calm flaps of tail of a cat means satisfaction while quick swings

of tail means warning. Tail of a cat held vertical with its tip

cat exposing its stomach means trust and vunerability. A cat arch its

back when it is threatened by another animal. Although the cat is a

relatively small animal, it can frighten enemies by arching its back,
bristling, and hissing. Cat rubbing up against the legs of its owner

for obtaining food or caresses.
Cats use about hundred different types of sounds for communication

while dogs use only about ten different types of sounds for

communication. Researchers have noted some sixteen vocal patterns in
cats. The basic cat sounds are purring, meows and hisses. Cats can

readily vary these sounds, thus seeming to talk. Most peoples are able

to communicate with their pet cats. A cat meeting with another cat

can emit more than fifty different sounds for communication which

vary in tone from harsh to acute. The cat forms words that assume a

precise meaning for other cats. The cat possesses a sweet sound, the

Purr, which it uses to express joy, momentary well being and affection

for its owner. It is a musical sound repeated at length when the

cat is happy. Purring also occurs in cats that are injured and in

circles, squares, triangles etc. Cats can also distinguish colours. Out
of all animals, only cats have the skill of jumping from great

heights by rolling their body in air, so that they tend to land on

all four feet on the ground, without injuring themselves. Cats survive

fall from great heights. A cat survived fall from 20th floor of a New
York apartment building. Another cat named Andy survived fall from 16th

number of studies involving weightlessness. The studies have shown that

under conditions of weightlessness, a cat is unable to right itself,
but will float about in any position. Cats seem to defy gravity. A

cat can survive fall from height of hundreds of feet. After a fall,

upto seven times its height. Cats are excellent climbers. Cats are

excellent hunters. Mother cats teach their kittens to hunt. A cat

always hunt alone whereas dogs always hunt in groups because stalking,
hiding and pouncing cannot be successful in a group. A kitten at six

weeks of age can hunt alone. Cat’s vision and hearing power is more

than dogs and human beings. Cat’s vision and hearing power is one of

the highest in animal kingdom. Cats have well developed sense of

smell. Cats have additional cigar shaped smelling organ known as

Jacobson’s Organ besides having nose. Cats have fourteen times more

for city cats. The territory of cats are the safe places for

sleeping, eating, hunting, defecating and playing. Like human beings, cats
are territorial by nature. Scent glands are located on various parts

of cat’s body including their faces, feet and base of their tail.
Scent glands contain molecules called Pheromones. By means of rubbing

their faces on various objects, cats are releasing Pheromones.
Pheromones affect number of behaviors like reproduction and
