Introducing Your New Kitten

Bringing a new pet into your household can be stressful for some of the members, while being joyful for others. If you have small children, other cats or dogs in your family, bringing home a new kitten will require some planning and preparation. Get some tips from fellow cat lovers in the pet community of ebayclassifieds. Your first step should always be to make sure that all pets, new and existing, have had adequate veterinarian examinations and immunizations. Small children should never be left with a new pet while unsupervised.

Once you are ready to bring your new kitten home, prepare a room where the kitten will spend her first days. This may be your bedroom, den or a spare room, but should not be a room where other pets are accustomed to spending large amounts of time. This will allow your new pet to become familiar with your house while other animals are adapting to the smell of the newcomer. After several days, you may be ready to physically introduce your pets to one another.

You must diligently supervise these first encounters. If any of your pets display outright violence toward another, separate them immediately for a later try. It can take several weeks to acclimate existing pets to an addition, and some older pets may never be completely friendly to the new one. Most often, however, the pets will find at least a form of truce where they spend most of their time in separate rooms. If this is the direction your pets are headed, you can help them out by providing separate litter boxes, snuggling beds, window sills or other spaces that they prefer.

There are numerous resources that provide detailed information about pet care depending on one’s choice of pet. One can opt for online or offline resources depending on one’s preferences. However, there are certain basic points that must be kept in mind irrespective of one’s choice of pets.

Pets should be treated like children. In fact, pets should be treated like children who will never grow up. Your dog may grow up to become a well trained animal but it still cannot take care of itself in a satisfactory manner. You must always be prepared to step in and lay down the law as and when required.

Keep the pet healthy and bulk of your pet related problems will automatically vanish. Health is very important. A pet who is not healthy will be a burden on the family. There will be emotional stress caused by the poor health. You will also have to face financial loss. On the other hand, a healthy pet will make life worth living.

Fitness and exercise is important for pets just as it is important for children. Make sure that your pet gets adequate exercise. Chances are high that you will be forced to exercise along with your pet. This is only going to offer additional benefits.

Take care of the diet and your pet and child will never fall ill. A good nutritious diet that does not involve junk food or other harmful substances is the best option around. Make sure that the food is consumed in a clean environment. You may even have to brush the teeth of your pet on regular basis to ensure that cleanliness and hygiene is maintained at all times.

Pet Insurance Information

Pet insurance information doesn’t have to be difficult to find, especially when it’s for your own pet.

Where Your Pet Records Should Be

Your pet is a valued member of your family, even more so than your spouse in some cases (no, we won’t tell). So, as this loved one, your pet’s medical records should be readily available to you and to your vet. But why are they treated differently than other medical information? Some pet records are treated as though they are for anyone to see and they are arranged in a way that doesn’t necessarily make them usable. Though vet medical education should teach otherwise, this is the way things have been for years and the way things may continue to be if things don’t change.

Why Your Pet Insurance Matters

The good news is that while your medical coverage might be horrible, pet medical insurance has actually increased the effectiveness of pet medical records. Since insurance companies don’t want to pay up for treatments, vets now have to keep medical records pristine to prove the medical treatments are necessary – just like you have to do with your health insurance. Guess a pet who’s treated the same is one that has to battle the same insurance problems – too bad they can’t speak up for themselves.

What Vet Medical Schools Teach

In vet medical school curriculum it becomes essential to teach future vets how to handle medical records. They need to know how to document charts, how to code for insurance payments, etc. While vets might have thought they were getting out of this boring part of medicine, seems that they have to be just as diligent as human doctors. Thankfully, pets can’t complain as much.

With the right pet insurance information and medical records, taking care of your pet can be simple and pain free. And you probably won’t have to make as many payments as you thought you did.

Preparing for Your New Kitten

When preparing for your new kitten, it isn’t enough for your kitten to have a safe place to live or even good food to eat; special care should be given for his/her well being.

Milk, water and wet food are good places to start, but so are veterinary visits soon after you take your new pet home. Spaying or neutering is important to some folks, and the sooner this is done the better.

Keep up on all your vaccines. Have the vet routinely check your kitten’s ears for mites, fleas, and flea dirt. Check your kitten’s stool for worms or parasites, and remember to keep your veterinarian abreast of any perceived sicknesses through sources like Canada 411. It’s always better to be safe than sorry when it comes to the health of your pet.

Long haired cats especially need to be groomed to prevent fur balls lodging in their throat. This means brushing at home, and maybe even a visit to the vet for a little trim. Your kitten will become physically unfit without the use of a few toys scattered throughout the house. But be prepared for your kitten to like something you haven’t purchased that he/she has found and claimed for their favorite toy.

Keeping your kitten in tip-top physical health does not have to include jumping on kitchen tables or scrounging for food on the kitchen counter. Spend time with your kitten playing with a ball of yarn or their favorite sock and you will find that they will receive much of the exercise they need for physical health.

Treat your new member with patience

Purchasing a dog is just not enough; it should be trained which is not an easy job. The owner should be patient and very careful while training its new dog or any other pet and once the training is complete he/she can enjoy with the new member happily.

Let us take an example of training a dog for which and it is to noted that the owner should not only know how to train a dog but even what to train which is done by understanding a dog’s body language, barks and noises. Even small animals are like the new born babies and so they should be treated with much care, love and affection. While training a dog the main thing to be remembered is that the person should be very specific and keen on his gesture and not change them regularly i.e. he/she can use a specific sign for anything considered and the person should stick to that until the dog learns. Again understanding the dog’s language is also very important since the dog communicates through all its body – eyes, ears, tail, leg and everything. So it is very important for a person to understand their language. It is also very important to understand a dog’s noise and barks since they even communicate by them. After that a name has to be given and after the dog is repeatedly called by that name it understands that name and moreover other signs like “come here” or “go away” when used regularly the pet understands those words.

Any pet if trained properly can be like a family member.

Pet-Friendly Apartment Living

Having a pet means something to an apartment dweller. In a lot of ways, you’re expanding your family when you bring an animal into your home, which can be a major step if you’ve never been responsible for any living things but yourself. Naturally, you need to do a little bit of extra searching when you look around for an apartment that’s fit for Fido and cool with Catrina.

When you hunt around for apartments for rent, pay careful attention to how high up they are. It you ever accidentally leave the window open, a lot of animals are inclined to jump out without really thinking about how far the fall is. While a cat can usually land all right up to about nine stories, cats don’t come with parachutes. As well, make sure the apartment you get has a screen for every window that opens. As well, make sure that any plants you keep in your home are either far out of your pet’s reach, or completely safe for him or her to munch on when the desire strikes them.

But it goes beyond safety. As safe as a pet may be, there are other factors that deserve consideration. For example, a pet friendly apartment is going to have a neighborhood where they have space to roam around in. And not just dogs and cats need this. Every animal needs a little outside time every now and again. It’s cruel to cage them up all the time. It’s a little hard to be pet friendly if you don’t ever allow your pets to get outside, even given the special considerations during the winter time.

Training Your Pet Puppy

The arrival of a new puppy in the household is greeted with cheer and happiness. While it is indeed a great moment for the house training and your puppy and taking care of it is indeed a big job which requires lot of focused hard work and tons of patience. There are some basic thing which must be done when a puppy lands in your house. The first thing is to take your pet to the best vet around in the town and have a thorough check up done.  Pups are very weak when they are newly born and are prone to lot of infections. The most common infection is hookworm and other infections which should be immediately addressed and remedied. If neglected, they could play havoc with your puppy’s health and could even prove fatal to it.

A visit to the vet will solve lot of other problems like vaccination and diagnosing any birth defects like cleft palate or some problems with their vital organs. The next important thing is training the puppy once it is home. You should start with small things and the most primary thing that you should start with is developing a good potty habit. The first few days will be problematic but you should be patient and persevering. Never be negative with your pet puppy. Scolding or beating the puppy is bound to create a lot of negativity between you and the puppy. On the other hand if you are positive and appreciate the good work done by the puppy it will go a long way in training it that much better.

The food which you provide to the puppy should be nutritious.

Health Care Of Your Pet Dog

Owners of pet dogs like their pets as much as pet owners of cat, horse, birds or even fishes do. But loving them and feeding is just one part of the story. While caring and being kind to your pet dog is very vital, equally important is to take care of its health. Pet dogs are very vulnerable to falling sick and developing serious problems unless they are taken care of properly.

Dogs are like human beings and are prone to falling sick or being in bad health. However, if we take proper care and do what is needed to be done in time, then we can avoid such situations. Like human beings they also have a heart, lungs and other vital organs, which can malfunction at any given point in time. So, proper periodical checkup under a qualified vet is very important for maintaining their health. They also should be clean under all circumstances. Bathing them regularly, cleaning their ears, brushing their teeth, cleaning their tongue is as important as taking care of their nails and hair. Dogs have thick coats of hair which should be trimmed and kept in proper condition by regular washing and drying.

They should be protected from insect and other infection like mites, lice, etc. Dogs like other animals and human beings should also be given periodical vaccinations and injections to keep them away from some life-threatening disease like rabies, etc. To keep good health of your pet dog, it is very essential to keep a close watch on their food habits. Give them nutritious food in the right quantities at the right interval. Avoid underfeeding or overfeeding. It is simple.

Training Your Pet Dog

If you are under the belief that your pet dog can be trained easily, then more often that not, you are bound to be woken from you stupor and realize the fact it is not that easy at all. Training your pet dog is one hell of a job, especially during the first few days. Especially if you have a small puppy which has just landed in your house, you may have to spend some sleepless night tending, caring and most importantly training it. The first basic lesson that you need to know about training pet dogs is to treat them as your own family member. You should give it the same love and attention that you would have given if it was your child.

Pet dogs are very sensitive but highly intelligent creatures and training them takes time and patience. Being tough on them will not pay and will only make matters worse. You should take one step at a time and begin with the first lesson of making the dog learn to go out for its toilet and other jobs. This can be done with a bit of practice and patience. The next thing is to select a spot for it to have its food and rest during the nights. If not done it will use any place in the home as its bedroom.
The other important aspect of training your pet dog is to make it respond to your commands and instructions like “Come here”, “go there”, etc. Here too patience is the name of the game and you cannot hurry it through. Develop the habits of appreciating and motivating it when it learns new trick or instruction.
